I found this super awesome project while trolling the Arduino Playground site. This is a small little barebones grain synthesizer made using an Arduino, 5 pots, and a mono audio jack. I think they explain it better than I can on their site: Click Me!
Anyways, I have a video of it in action here for those who are interested in seeing it.

I have a plan for this. I was thinking of using this in conjunction with my project as a little Winter Break project. The plan includes removing the pot controlling the grain repetition and wiring a MIDI-in port into the circuit. With some modifications to the program, I could control the pitch of the sounds using MIDI output from my instrument. I may also wire a small 3″ speaker onto this along with a by-pass switch for the audio jack. Battery power this sucker and epoxy a belt-clip on and one now has a portable MIDI synthesizer! Definitely going to have fun with this.
